Mini Reviews: Books by Colleen Hoover

Oreoluwa Eunice's avatarStoryStoryOh

Hi sweetie, I am so glad you are reading on StoryStoryOh today. I hope the past few months has been good to you. I did a lot of reading in July and a particular author took up quite a few days out of my July. I have been hearing good things about her books and so I decided to give them a trial. When I did, believe me, I could not stop. I started reading her books from one to the other.

Her name is Colleen Hoover.

Colleen Hoover is one author I am so grateful I discovered. She is such a meticulous writer and her books were more than entertaining, they all had things I learnt. You should know, Colleen is a Romance/ YA/ Women’s Fiction author.

On July 14, I started with Maybe Someday and it made me realize that I have been missing out. Maybe Someday isn’t…

Fight!

Emmanuella Omonigho's avatarEmmanuella Omonigho

Life is one long but short and mysterious creation. So mysterious you can’t predict what happens next, to you or to someone else. Sometimes I sit and try to understand the concept, being born, trying to sustain life, growing, meeting people, leaving people and then death. As a child, you believe its one far journey and you eagerly want to take it, but then, you cross a certain age and it’s all too short and time is going too fast.

Still, in the midst of this journey some stand strong, but there’s always a point of mental, emotional and psychological breaking, falling. There are people who get themselves back together, while there are others who try and try and end up ‘going with the flow’.

From my experience of ‘flowing with the go‘, I know how tiring it could be. All the apologies one always has to…

08 | TAHSC Literature Spotlight: Prose.

The Anti-Hate Speech Campaign's avatarThe Anti-Hate Speech Campaign

Tired and upset, I stormed out of my last class for the day. My lecturer had abandoned the topic of the day, choosing to air his views on the different dress patterns of the students in his class. While that wouldn’t have bothered me, I felt a bit uncomfortable with the message he’d chosen to pass.

A girl in a turban had sat at the front row, right in front of me, and that was what had set off the vile words he spewed for the rest of his time with us. He had asked her if she was a Muslim, to which she replied that she wasn’t.

“When you start dressing like them, you allow them infiltrate us until they take over everything,” he had said, eyeing her with distaste.

I knew for a fact that there were Muslim students in that class, and the further he went in…

06 | What Causes Hate Speech?

The Anti-Hate Speech Campaign's avatarThe Anti-Hate Speech Campaign

Hate speech is no funny business, as we have already established.

However, it is possibly one of the more common themes of human societies. This campaign would be targeting the many forms of Hate Speech, but it intends to kick off with acknowledging and dealing with the existence of Hate Speech between religions, particularly Christianity and Islam and ethnic groupings within the Nigerian society.

Whenever the talk of Hate Speech comes up, it is easy to wonder what causes it, I know I did when I received this project. So many ask this question too and some even believe that there is nothing tangible that would make one actually hurt or deliberately insult another person. Many go on to dismiss the existence of hate speech as a crime and claim it is a perpetuation of paranoid people.

But, they are wrong because hate speech exists and it is perpetrated not…

Anti-Hate Speech Quotes

“Quotes give life to a movement, they are a reminder that you in fighting the battle, you do not march alone” – Eboseremen Ailenotor.

Like all movements, The Anti-Hate Speech Campaign has a number of quotes, made by various persons at different points in history, that that support it. This article would serve as a gathering of these quotes, many of which highlight the concepts of love, peace, and tolerance; and we might add a little footnote of our own to each quote.

P.S: If you ever have to write an essay on Anti-Hate Speech, these would prove helpful! So, you are welcome!

  • “However let’s turn the coin, what if we choose not to broadcast the bad news but choose to broadcast mostly good news? How would this affect our life?” ― Tracy Sillato, My Maasai Experience: Reflections

Footnote: Life throws different things at us, both good and bad, but if…

Our Election Campaign.

The Anti-Hate Speech Campaign's avatarThe Anti-Hate Speech Campaign

Yesterday’s elections were postponed to the 23rd of February and underneath all the bants lay disappointment, but since every cloud has a silver lining, we searched for the one here, and found it.

Regardless of when it is held, this election would still determine the country’s leader for the next 4 years; hence all stakeholders would definitely continue campaigns to ensure they win. As Nigerian citizens, we are the most important stakeholders – in Government terms, we are the “electorates” and we hold all the power.

So here’s TAHSC making its election campaign:

Voting should not be based on “brothers & sisters”, this is not an election for your village chief or your choir master; this is an election for the peace and progress of our nation. If you intend to vote for a contestant because of his/her religion or tribe, please change your mind. Nigeria is a…
